Binbrook Benefits
Binbrook,
nestled in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural
Beauty, is celebrating some of the community’s achievements supported by
the Sustainable Development Fund (SDF).
-
In 2005, enthusiastic residents embarked on the creation of a new
recreational facility in the form of a bowling club and green. The
project was developed and Binbrook was awarded 50% of the costs of
creating the green. The £7,500 SDF ‘starter’ grant encouraged
others to follow and the Club now has an excellent green in a
lovely location with over 60 members.
|
-
Attention then switched to the Queen’s Hall which is used as a
village hall for the residents of Binbrook and surrounding area.
The hall was in a very poor condition and a regeneration project
was agreed jointly between the Parish Council and the Queens Hall
Committee. The whole scheme was initially daunting, with over
£40,000 required over a number of separate phases.
|
-
Careful planning and the tenacity of the residents attracted the
funding in stages. In March 2006, the SDF granted £7,500 to carry
out works alleviating damp and improving insulation. An immediate
improvement to the ambience of the Hall was felt.
|
-
Other funding followed, and by October further refurbishments plus
a new kitchen and central heating transformed the Hall, which is
now a pleasure to use.
|
-
Phase 4 is in progress and Binbrook is delighted that the SDF has
once more provided the lead by granting a further £5,000. The
grant will cover refurbishment of the meeting room, an external
facelift and some internal changes to enable wider use of the
Hall.
|
The Village Hall is open for everyone to use and is an
important local resource. The
Brownies are regular users and recently an excellent senior citizens
Christmas lunch and entertainment was attended by over 100 residents.
The Lincolnshire Wolds AONB SDF has been hugely beneficial
to the whole community. Two important things to note are:
-
The application procedure is as user-friendly as it can be, help
and guidance is provided and the process is fast and positive.
|
-
The foresight of the approving SDF Panel should be commended
because on each of the three applications submitted from Binbrook,
the SDF has been the first to respond – as we all know from
experience, the first step is often the most difficult.
|
The message to other Wolds villages regarding the SDF is
use it or lose it – it’s easier than you think!
