Wonderful
Warren
Formerly a sand pit and landfill site, South Thoresby
Warren proposed Local Nature Reserve was officially opened by Lincolnshire
County Council’s Conservation Services on Saturday the 1st of December.
To mark the occasion Cllr Ian Cart wright MBE, Vice Chairman of the County
Council and Cllr Lewis Strange planted a large oak tree. This was followed
by a tree planting event, with the local community bringing along spades
to help plant trees and shrubs. This went really well and several hundred
native trees were planted to extend the existing area of woodland.
The new 12 hectare nature reserve is located just west of
South Thoresby and east of the A16 near Calceby in the Lincolnshire Wolds.
The area has been dramatically transformed by the County Council with the
assistance of the local community into an area for people and wildlife.
The Warren includes mature and newly‑planted woodland, open grassland,
surfaced paths and seating. The development of this new nature reserve
has received grant funding from Lincolnshire County Council, WREN,
Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund and the Lincolnshire Wolds Countryside
Service.
