Wolds Based Heritage Project Wins Award
A heritage project part funded by the Lincolnshire Wolds Countryside Service has won a regional award.
The 'Down your Wold' Project triumphed with an accolade for Volunteer Empowerment at the East Midlands Regional Heritage Awards on November 9th. The award was given to celebrate a project or activity in a heritage organisation where paid staff engage and empower volunteers.
The Project was further honoured with a poem written especially for the occasion by Hannah Cooper- Smithson, who is studying for a PHD in contemporary ecopoetry. Hannah is going to post the poem as a 'blog' on the UNESCO City of Literature (Nottingham) website. On it she will talk about her inspiration for the poem, and present an audio recording of the poem being read. Heritage poem.
The aim of Down Your Wold was to increase wider understanding and appreciation of the heritage within the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
The discoveries made during the project provided local communities with a greater comprehension of local heritage and awareness of its importance.
