Poetry Competition 2017

Poetry Competition 2017
Thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund with support from the Lincolnshire County Council we had some excellent entries into our 2017 Poetry Competition!
The theme of the competition was 'Lincolnshire Chalk Streams' and the competition was judged by an independent local poet. You can view all of the entries by clicking on the links at the bottom of the page.
The overall winner was James Forrester, well done James. Here's his poem 'Mayfly time'
Mayfly time
A moment of perfection is briefly
Held in a film between two worlds
Until surface tension breaks
Releasing the winged form
To rise like lcarus
Tails streaming in thin air –
Where beauty can be spent
In the blaze of a single day.
A refracted view through
Dimpled lens reveals
Numb fingers of ranunculus
Swaying apart to partially unveil
Sharp-edged trout
Pulsing against the flow –
Counting time
Until the dance is done.
The serpentine stream slowly
Unfurls a meander and
Conceives an intersection point
Where air thickens into water
And light can be seized
And distorted
In a flash -
Of kingfisher blue.
