A Community Enterprise During Lockdown

10 July 2020

Tealby Village Shop had been going from strength to strength since the new committee had taken the helm in 2018. With a clear strategy, a committee full of enthusiastic members and a new look to match the newly rebranded village (This is Tealby), Tealby Village Shop was finally becoming a huge asset to the village.

Looking forward to a record-breaking spring & summer of sales we suddenly found ourselves in the midst of a pandemic. An initial brief outlook of disaster for the shop was soon pushed to the side as Tealby Village Shop took on its new role. A Covid Action Group was quickly set up and all the vulnerable and in need of help were identified. Multiple ways of supplying food to our residents were secured and others found; Local fish, local meat, fresh bread provided daily by our village baker, weekly veg boxes, potato deliveries from a local farmer, local cheese & butter, milk and homemade meals delivered. The new cooler system which we were able to buy through the small grants scheme from Lincolnshire Wolds Countryside Service really helped too.

The shop's layout was adapted and new protocols put in place to allow the shop to keep running safely and not endanger any of the volunteers or customers, and those in the community that couldn't visit the shop had their supplies delivered by a band of volunteers that had joined the shop to help out. They say that during the dark, troubling times is when a good community really shows its heart and strength, and Tealby Village Shop was, and is, proud to be a big part of ours.

Tealby Hub -  This is the place to find out or post about Tealby news, events, information, general discussions or buy & sell goods.
