Lincolnshire Wolds Walking Festival Update

17 December 2019

After fifteen very successful years, the Lincolnshire Wolds Walking Festival is taking a break for 2020.  There are two main reasons for this decision:

1. Our senior Lead partner for the last five years, Heritage Lincolnshire, has stepped down from the hosting role, but will remain on the organising committee. However, the exciting news is that East Lindsey District Council (ELDC) has very generously agreed to step into the breach and become Lead partner for the proposed new ‘Outdoor Festival' planned for the spring of 2021.

2. Attendance from walkers has been falling over the last five years, and the organising committee feel the time is right to reassess the format and look at broadening the appeal of the festival by including more outdoor activities, and making it more inclusive and attractive to families, specialist interest groups and a wider audience in general.
We take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all of the walkers who have attended and enjoyed the Lincolnshire Wolds Walking Festivals, and who have made it so successful over the years.  Please be assured that as we move forward, we envisage that ‘walking' will remain at the heart of any new ‘Wolds Outdoor Festival' in 2021. Equally, we must pass on a huge thanks to the wonderful team of voluntary walk leaders who have given so much of their time and energy to make the walking festival a major annual event in the county.  Suffice to say, the organising committee will keep in touch, and hope that your imaginative leadership will return to form the core of the new festival offer.

A new part-time coordinator post has recently been advertised via ELDC, with interviews and an appointment to follow in early 2020.  There are numerous outdoor activities being considered for the revised festival: from gliding to kayaking; horse riding to outdoor drama and poetry; mountain biking to creating a communal garden; and from fishing to bell ringing.  So if you would like to make a suggestion of an outdoor activity that can be considered, please contact us

and submit details - we really would love to hear from you.
Geoffrey Newmarch - Chairman, LWWF (on behalf of the organising committee)
