St Andrew’s Church, South Thoresby, will hold its annual exhibition from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th April, with doors open from 10am to 4pm each day. Previous exhibitions have explored themes ranging from Angels to Amazon Rainforest Tribes, and this year visitors are invited to step into the enchanting world of Arabian Nights. The exhibition traces the journey of the tales from A Thousand and One Nights, following their path from ancient Middle Eastern legend to their lasting influence on European imagination.
In the lead‑up to the exhibition, the church’s Facebook page, Angels at South Thoresby, will feature a series of articles offering background, insights, and glimpses behind the scenes as a prelude to the event. Alongside this, the sister page, Adventures of Thomas Pilgrim Mouse, will share a couple of short stories inspired by the spirit and themes of the Arabian Nights tales.
The exhibition itself explores how these stories have reflected the cultures of the Middle East while simultaneously shaping European storytelling over the centuries. Among the items on loan is a beautiful oriental carpet which, although not magical, carries a remarkable and unique history of its own.
All are warmly welcome to attend, with free entry and refreshments available throughout the weekend. St Andrew’s Church looks forward to sharing this year’s exhibition with visitors from near and far.
