Over the past number of years, Kent University and the Northern Lincolnshire Archaeology and History Society have worked together to investigate and piece together the history of Roman settlement in the Northern Wolds. During 2023, Open Days were held at Binbrook and Brookenby for all to discover the work undertaken at Swinhope and learn more about aspects of practical archaeology.
And so, in 2024 and with kind permission of the landowners, the Swinhope excavation continues!
This year there will also be an opportunity for any non-members to take part in a “Get to know Archaeology” on selected days, exploring various aspects of an archaeological dig, and getting hands on experience such as:
- Field walking
- Geophysical surveying techniques
- Excavation techniques
- Find sorting, cleaning and initial conservation
- Exhibition management
PLACES ARE LIMITED AND MUST BE BOOKED.
Start time is 9.30 am.
Friday 13 Sept: Non-members “Get to know Archaeology” All day
Saturday 14 Sept: Non-members “Get to know Archaeology” All day
