Concert - Echoes of the Renaissance

Louth Choral Society has pleasure in announcing their forthcoming concert,  ‘Echoes of the Renaissance’, music from the 16th to the 21st century, marking the 400th anniversary of William Byrd at St James Church, Louth on Sunday 26th November, 2023, 7.00pm. 

Byrd is ranked amongst one of England's greatest composers. In his early career he was Master of the Choristers at Lincoln Cathedral between 1563-1672. He was known to have visited Louth on at least two occasions. The concert will celebrate the 400th anniversary of Byrd alongside that of his younger contemporary Thomas Weekes, who died the same year. Some of their most popular sacred and secular works will be performed alongside works by composers who influenced them, and those influenced by them. Louth Choral Society will be joined by St. James' Church Choir, conducted by their director, Allan Smith.
