The Daphnis Wind Quintet was formed in 2017, with students from the Royal Academy of Music and Royal College of Music who had previously played together in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and studied together at The Purcell School for young musicians. They are the winners of the Nicholas Blake Prize 2018 at the Academy, where they received coaching from Keith Bragg, Robin O’Neill, Mel Ragge, Sam Coles, Moriarty Winds and Notus Winds. The last couple of years have seen some of its members appear as concerto soloists in genres ranging from baroque to contemporary, and as orchestral musicians, they are regularly freelancing or trialling with most of the major orchestras in the UK, as well as in Austria, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal, and Italy.

Daphnis have an interest in outreach work and all types of music, from orchestral transcriptions to jazz, and recently went on a summer residency at the Fernando Atelier in France, where they performed and conducted workshops with children. They were Chamber Music Fellows of the Royal Academy of Music in 2019/20.

We are extremely grateful to the Countess of Munster Recital Scheme for their support for this concert
