Horncastle is located where the Rivers Bain and Waring meet, and on the site of the Roman fort or Bannovallum.

Horncastle means 'the Roman town on a horn-shaped piece of land'.

It is an excellent starting point from which to enjoy the beautiful and varied local countryside, including the Wolds.
