Latest updates: 

  • new report jointly published by the National Landscapes Association and National Parks England highlights some of the achievements since the Farming in Protected Landscapes programme was introduced in 2022:
    - 840 projects delivered to reduce flood risk
    - 204,000 trees planted
    - 3400+ educational visits funded
    - Over 7000 farmers and land managers engaged
    - Almost 200 farm clusters, supporting farmers to work together supported
    - 422 ponds created or restored
    - 150 monuments at risk supported
     
  • On 15 January, we unveiled the work of five of the writers commissioned for the Nature Calling project. BBC 6 Music favourite, Manchester’s OneDa and MOBO award winning Still Shadey from Croydon both created rap pieces, working with Forest of Bowland National Landscape and Surrey Hills National Landscape respectively. Up and coming poet Ayesha Chouglay from London worked with Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape to explore a family connection, writing four new pieces. Louisa Adjoa Parker created a rich mixture of prose and poetry in 'This patch of land' working with Dorset National Landscape, and Lee Nelson from Luton worked with Chilterns National Landscape to write a short collection of nine new pieces. The works are as diverse as the landscapes they reflect and make for compelling listening and reading. Enjoy!
     
  • The National Landscapes Association team welcomed its new Climate Change Coordinator, Clare Downing. Clare joins us from NFU Mutual and will be helping National Landscapes prepare to develop climate change adaptation plans. 
     
  • The Office for Environmental Protection released its annual health check looking at our progress towards the ten goals in the Environmental Improvement Plan. The verdict: not good. Bruce Winney looks at the figures and shares some reasons for optimism. 
     
  • Gower National Landscape is the first area in South Wales to attain Dark Sky Community Designation from DarkSky International.
