Just in time for festive walking with family and friends, a new bridge has been installed on the permissive access route heading north past Jack’s Furze to Welton Vale, just west of Louth. As part of the network of promoted routes from the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape, the Louth set of Gateway Walks utilises the public rights of way network, alongside permissive access, for people to explore and enjoy the countryside from the market town.
‘This bridge had definitely seen better days’, said Helen Gamble, Project Officer at the Lincolnshire Wolds Countryside Service, ‘and we were to be able to use the Defra Access for All funding to replace it with a new bridge. As ever, much of our work is in partnership with farmers and landowners and we are grateful for them to enable the contractors to access the site to replace the bridge. The contractors did a great job in removing the old, installing the new and making good the surrounding fence and stile.’
The Access for All funding is for physical and digital infrastructure improvements to make Protected Landscapes more accessible for people of all ages and abilities and from all socio-economic backgrounds, to make them ‘places for everyone.’ Keep an eye out for more projects using this fund.
