National Grid’s Grimsby to Walpole pylons/towers, Eastern Green Link 3,4 & 5 underground cables and SSE Renewables’ Ossian offshore project.
The offshore Ossian project has been put on hold until further notice. This scheme would have landed at Anderby Creek and then via underground cables which may have cut across the Wolds. Due to grid connection issues the project is being reviewed. The Grimsby to Walpole overhead towers project is going through further design development and refinement. The Eastern Green link 3 & 4 underground cables which travel across the Wolds near Gunby, are aiming to submit their Development Consent Order to the Planning Inspector around September and the Eastern Green Link 5 project will carry out a statutory consultation between 29th May until 24th July. We continue to liaise with the National Grid and other partners on all of the current Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIP’s) acting in the best interests of the Lincolnshire Wolds AONB.
North Ray Solar Project, Ludborough
It is anticipated that this scheme will be submitted very soon to East Lindsey District Council. This 98 Mega Watt (MW) solar project would have until recently been classed as an NSIP and therefore examined by the Planning Inspectorate instead of the Local Council. This change in procedure may potentially enable greater opportunity to have local voices and opinions heard.

The public inquiry which would have been held next month was brought to an abrupt end when the applicant withdrew their appeal on the 15th of December last year against the Supreme Court’s judgement. Additional evidence was submitted by us, along with many others in early December and soon afterwards Egdon Resources and its partners decided to withdraw, citing investment, policy and commercial issues.

Interest is increasing in the importance of protecting the Dark Skies of the Wolds. Light pollution affects behavioural patterns of flora, fauna and human beings. The Lincolnshire Wolds Dark Skies are a special quality of the Wolds and are under threat. We have joined the Northern England Dark Skies Alliance to learn how to protect and promote this valuable aspect of the Wolds.
