Roadside Nature Reserve network

The Lincolnshire Wolds Countryside Service joined with the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust and Lincolnshire County Council to replace the signs on the Roadside Nature Reserve network across the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape, with the final post installed with local contractors (add if you wish) in early May. The posts and signs were funded via the Lincolnshire Wolds Grant Scheme, with 57 posts used to mark the RNR, as the old ones were either missing or damaged. The new posts are to ensure that they are visible above the summer grass growth and help with conservation management in terms of botanical surveying and annual mowing as well as reducing the likelihood of damage due to their greater visibility.

Locally grown oak, processed into the posts by C M Nichols Sawmill, were used which brings more value to the project. ‘It’s so good to see these posts across the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape,’ said Helen Gamble, Project Officer at the LWCS. ‘Not only do they highlight the special qualities of the Roadside Nature Reserve network across the Lincolnshire Wolds, but as a bespoke design, they are in keeping with the traditional elements on the road network. It is also good that local timber, processed by a sawmill less than 4 miles from here, could be used…. it really does add local benefit to all aspects of the Project, with the posts being larger than previous ones, which means they are more visible and that is raising awareness about our unique linear grassland habitat.'
