Shelf Life film launched

29 January 2026

Shelf Life was an expansive artistic project created by INSTAR - artists Trish Evans and Nick Humphreys - for the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape as part of the Nature Calling programme. It challenged and explores the possibility for a sustainable balance between modern day farming and protecting and enhancing nature. Using print, billboards and film, the artists open a conversation concerning pressures on natural habitats and farming within the Lincolnshire Wolds landscape. Observing where nature has retreated and how fields for farming have expanded, the artists engaged with farmers and landowners, discovering pressures on rural life, farm life and wildlife. They explored this tension between agriculture and ecology by considering the systems, policies, and social demands that drive a loss of nature and biodiversity. Shelf Life was formed of three elements: a large-scale billboard artwork touring ten locations within the Wolds landscape; a film featuring the artwork billboard and three smaller-scale touring billboards created in collaboration with Lincolnshire young people. These billboards toured a series of Lincolnshire festivals and events from June to September 2025.
