The night sky in the Wolds is an important feature of the area and significantly adds to the beauty of the National Landscape. This is something we should enjoy and protect. The Lincolnshire Wolds Countryside Service is investigating options for enhanced recognition, potentially via the International Dark-Sky Association, and we’ll continue discussions with our Joint Advisory Committee and wider stakeholders.
In the meantime, if you wish to enjoy the Wolds night skies, there’s still some time left to enter this year’s ‘Capture the Dark’, Dark Sky International, Premier Nighttime Photography Contest. The closing date for entries is the 30th June with winners announced on the 13th August 2025. There are multiple categories you can enter, such as Creatures of the Night (flora & fauna), Deep Sky Observations, Mobile Nighttime Photography, Young Astrophotographers etc and you can submit your photos into each category so there’s more chances to win the competition.
